Refresh, Refresh, Refresh!

In Landscaping, Lawn Care, Lawn Treatment & Fertilization, Property Management, Residential

Now is the time to refresh your lawns with proper aeration, mulch your beds, and check on your drainage issues. The end of the summer is the perfect time to tend to these tasks in preparation of fall projects.

Lawn Aeration

Tending to compact soil and inconsistent lawn areas should be done as the weather cools down in pre-fall or in the spring after a dormant winter season. This will improve the flow of water and nutrients in the soil to the grass roots. In rainy seasons, this is important to do to discourage mold and fungus growth.

Using Proper Mulch

As we continue to get warm weather throughout September, refreshing or topping off your garden beds is a good idea to keep your plants protected and maintain the water balance. With the wet season we have had, a lot of mulch may have been washed away or matted down, fluffing it up and augmenting the bed with some fresh mulch will get you into the fall season successfully. Two to four inches of mulch is all you need.

Drainage Check along the Foundation

This is a great time to check the drainage around the foundation and in the key areas of the lawn. Surprisingly, a slight grade of 2% is all you need to create a proper flow line away from your home and foundation. Look for blockages where roots have invaded the piping, and for any water pooling away from the home. If you do this now, you can fix any minor issues that arose during the season. Check each downspout and French drain you have installed. You’ll be glad you did!
