Make the Most of This Beautiful Time of Year!
The start of summer gardening season along with a gorgeous variety of blooming plants, flowers and trees have arrived. Your property will be bursting with color for the next few months. And taking advantage of the bountiful fruits and vegetables available for the garden is environmentally friendly and will provide you with delicious, home grown food.
Also this month, be diligent about fighting pests and check out the June list of To Dos. Lastly, let us create container plantings all season with annuals including impatiens, begonia, zinnias, and more.
June To Dos for Your Garden & Property:
- Plant warm season vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, squash, and peppers.
- Check for insect and disease problems, and address them immediately to avoid damage.
- Plant perennials and summer bulbs now. There are so many choices, such as day lilies, begonia, and salvia, to name a few.
- Continue to prune flowering shrubs as soon as they finish blooming.
- Add extra mulch for shrubs with shallow roots, including azaleas, camellias, and rhododendrons, to help them hold moisture.
- Reduce fertilizing of plants as the temperature rises and soil gets dry. Only feed plants if they’re being watered.
