Late Winter To Dos

It’s a brutal time of year, especially for most plants and shrubs. To get through winter, here are a few tips for the cold months:

  • Clear debris. Even if there is still snow, get rid of any branches or leaves to prevent mold, pests, and damage to your lawn/property. Regular maintenance now makes clean up much easier.
  • Prune, prune, prune. It’s the perfect time for pruning, since many trees and shrubs are dormant in the winter. Removing dead branches helps encourage healthy growth in spring. Focus on trees, shrubs, and perennials that need reshaping or have broken limbs from snow or ice. However, this does not apply to trees like magnolia and lilac because it removes flower buds. • Add compost. A 2-3 inch layer is the ideal amount to the soil. Or replenish what is already there.
  • Check plant supports. Make sure they are still secure or add them. And reinforce burlap wrapping for trees.

Assess Any Property Damage

Snow, rain and ice can wreak havoc on your patio, walkways, stairs and walls. Walk around and look for any cracks or erosion. Freezing and thawing cycles can really take a toll. Contact us to schedule any repairs. Fixing them now will ensure longevity and your outdoor space will be ready to enjoy when spring and summer arrives.

Don’t Forget…Container Plantings

Replenish existing plants and brighten up your property. There are many types of hardy plants and flowers that can add a burst of color. Annual contracts are also available for four season plantings.
