How to create a welcoming front yard

 In Residential

The front of your home should be a welcoming sight that gives each of your visitors a sense of warmth and calm. In order to do this, you need to tend to a few different areas of the landscape. Which just a few tweaks, you can make your home look the best on the block!

STEP 1: LIGHTEN UP THE LANDSCAPE

Just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean the show is over! You can still show off your property to passersby by equipping the landscape with outdoor lighting that helps highlight specific features. Lighting can be placed along walkways, underneath trees or plants to illuminate them, against the house, etc. A little light can go a long way!

STEP 2: ADD A WONDERFUL WALKWAY

For those with walkways leading from their driveway to the front door, there’s a lot you can do with this area. Instead of leaving it bare and plain, make it a prominent piece of are you can admire from start to finish. Choose your favorite shrubs, plants, lighting, etc. to place alongside the walkway that will guide you (and your eyes) to your destination.

STEP 3: FOCUS ON THE FRONT STEPS

Not all homes are lucky enough to have a front porch, but there’s still a lot you can do with the front steps. While there is a functional reason to have a good set of sturdy steps, you might as well make them a focal point of your property. Opt for slabs of stone and granite or pavers to create a custom (yet functional) work of art. Steps are one of the last things people see before entering your home, so leave them with an amazing impression.
